Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Krishna Swaminathan has commenced a four-day official visit to Mauritius from August 10 to 13, 2026, aimed at further strengthening bilateral maritime cooperation and consolidating defence ties between the two countries.
The visit is part of India’s sustained engagement with Mauritius, a valued maritime partner in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). During the visit, the Navy Chief is scheduled to interact with senior leadership of the Government of Mauritius and hold discussions on a range of issues of mutual interest, including maritime security, defence cooperation, capacity building and military collaboration.
The engagements are expected to further strengthen operational-level linkages between the Indian Navy and its Mauritian counterparts, while reinforcing the longstanding strategic partnership between the two countries.
India and Mauritius share close and enduring maritime ties. The Indian Navy and the Mauritius National Coast Guard regularly undertake training exchanges and operational engagements, including Joint Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) Surveillance, port visits and hydrographic surveys. The two sides also cooperate closely through multilateral maritime forums and regional initiatives.
Mauritius has been a regular participant in key Indian Navy initiatives, including the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS), MILAN, International Fleet Review, Goa Maritime Conclave, IOS SAGAR and Exercise AIKEYME. These engagements reflect the shared vision of MAHASAGAR — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions — and the commitment of both nations towards a secure, stable and cooperative Indian Ocean Region.
