As part of the Indian Navy’s landmark transoceanic expedition Lokayan 2026, the Indian Naval Sail Training Ship (STS) INS Sudarshini entered New York Harbour on 4 July 2026 to participate in the United States International Naval Review 250 and Sail4th 250 celebrations, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence.

The iconic three-masted barque took part in the ceremonial Parade of Sail along the Hudson River, proudly displaying the Indian Tricolour and showcasing India’s enduring maritime heritage and centuries-old seafaring traditions before an international audience.

The New York port call forms a key milestone in INS Sudarshini’s 10-month Lokayan 2026 expedition, which underscores the Indian Navy’s commitment to maritime diplomacy, professional engagement, and strengthening cooperation with partner navies across the globe. Prior to arriving in New York, the ship successfully participated in the SAIL 250 events at Norfolk and Baltimore.

Currently berthed at Brooklyn, INS Sudarshini will participate in a series of ceremonial and outreach engagements as part of the Sail 4th 250 celebrations. Against the backdrop of New York’s iconic skyline, the vessel stands as a symbol of India’s rich maritime legacy, naval professionalism, and commitment to fostering international goodwill.

The visit reinforces the growing maritime partnership between India and the United States, reflecting shared values, mutual respect, and sustained cooperation in the maritime domain. Through Lokayan 2026, INS Sudarshini continues to advance India’s maritime outreach, strengthening naval ties and promoting friendship across the world’s oceans.
