In a nationwide display of remembrance and military tradition, the Indian Army’s Eastern Command marked Kargil Vijay Diwas 2026 with solemn wreath-laying ceremonies across key formations, paying homage to the brave soldiers whose courage and sacrifice secured India’s victory during the 1999 Kargil War. From Kolkata to Patna and across operational formations, serving soldiers, veterans and civil dignitaries came together to honour the legacy of the heroes of Operation Vijay.
Leading the commemorations in Kolkata, Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen VMB Krishnan joined officers, veterans and personnel of the Tri-Services at Vijay Smarak, Vijay Durg, where wreaths were laid in memory of the fallen. The ceremony reflected the Army’s enduring respect for the indomitable spirit, unwavering resolve and supreme sacrifice of the Bravehearts whose actions continue to define the highest traditions of military service.
The Brahmastra Corps also observed the occasion with a solemn ceremony at its War Memorial. Senior officers and soldiers paid tribute to those who laid down their lives in the line of duty during the Kargil conflict. The event reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to upholding the ideals of courage, selfless service and unwavering dedication to protecting the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In Bihar, under the aegis of Trinity Area, the Governor of Bihar, Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd), led the commemorations by laying a wreath at Kargil Memorial Chowk, Patna. He was joined by senior Army officers and civil dignitaries, who paid floral tributes to the fallen soldiers, acknowledging their extraordinary valour and sacrifice in defence of the nation.
Earlier, Trishakti Corps also commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas with a wreath-laying ceremony at its War Memorial. Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and soldiers gathered to honour the heroes of Operation Vijay, reaffirming that their legacy continues to inspire every generation of Indian soldiers to serve with courage, honour and devotion.
Observed every year on 26 July, Kargil Vijay Diwas marks India’s victory in the Kargil War and commemorates the successful conclusion of Operation Vijay. More than two decades later, the memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice remains deeply embedded in the ethos of the Indian Army. The ceremonies held across formations served as a powerful reminder that while battles may become history, the courage of those who fought them continues to inspire the nation and strengthen its resolve to safeguard India’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
