The Indian Navy is set to commission INS Malvan, the second vessel of the Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) series, on 22 July 2026, marking another significant milestone in India’s indigenous naval modernisation programme.
The commissioning ceremony will be presided over by Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, in the presence of Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command. Senior naval officers, representatives of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), veterans and other distinguished guests are expected to attend the event.
Constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited, Kochi, INS Malvan has been built with more than 80 percent indigenous content, underscoring India’s growing self-reliance in naval shipbuilding under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The vessel reflects the country’s expanding capability in the design, construction and integration of advanced warships.
Designed specifically for anti-submarine operations in coastal and shallow waters, the Mahe-class ASW-SWC combines agility, endurance and modern combat capabilities to enhance the Indian Navy’s littoral warfare and maritime security operations.
The commissioning of INS Malvan represents the continued induction of a new generation of indigenous anti-submarine warfare platforms, further strengthening the Navy’s operational readiness and India’s maritime defence capabilities.
