The Indian Army, under the White Knight Corps, rescued 11 civilians, including five children, stranded at different locations in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district after heavy rainfall triggered flash floods. The rescue operations were carried out in close coordination with the Jammu & Kashmir Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the civil administration.

The first rescue mission was launched after nine civilians, including five children, were reported stranded across a flooded Nala near Churung village, south of Thanamandi. Army troops responded immediately, navigating strong currents and adverse weather conditions to safely evacuate all those trapped.

In a separate operation, troops of an Engineer Regiment rescued two youths, aged between 17 and 20 years, who had become stranded on a river island in the Naushera Tawi River near Dhangri, around 12 km from Rajouri. Braving fast-flowing waters, the rescue team successfully brought both youths to safety before handing them over to their families in the presence of civil administration officials.

The coordinated response by the Indian Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police, SDRF and the civil administration ensured the successful completion of both rescue missions without any casualties.

The operations once again highlighted the Indian Army’s capability to respond swiftly to natural disasters, reinforcing its role in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations across the region.
