The Indian Army has continued its extensive humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations under Operation Jal Rahat across flood-affected areas of Upper Assam, providing rescue, medical aid and essential relief supplies to affected communities as the flood situation gradually improves.
According to the Army, four Flood Relief Columns of the Red Shield Gunners, operating under the aegis of Spear Corps, remain deployed in the districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat. The troops are engaged in delivering food, drinking water, medical assistance and other essential relief materials to residents affected by the floods while continuing rescue operations in areas where people remain stranded.
The Army said that while water levels have begun to recede in several locations, relief efforts remain focused on supporting vulnerable communities and assisting the civil administration in restoring normalcy. Engineering detachments have also been deployed to restore connectivity by repairing damaged infrastructure and facilitating access to remote and inaccessible areas, ensuring uninterrupted delivery of relief supplies.
Since the launch of Operation Jal Rahat, the Indian Army has rescued more than 1,000 civilians from flood-affected areas. Troops have distributed over 4,500 food packets, supplied more than 9,500 bottles of drinking water, and provided medical assistance to over 190 people through dedicated medical teams operating in the affected districts.
Army personnel remain fully deployed across the region, maintaining relief operations while continuing search and rescue missions wherever required. Officials said the humanitarian mission is being sustained until all affected communities receive the necessary assistance and conditions return to normal.
The ongoing operation is being carried out in close coordination with the civil administration, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other agencies. The coordinated response has enabled the timely delivery of relief and rescue services, reflecting the integrated approach adopted to address the evolving flood situation in Upper Assam.
