The Indian Air Force (IAF) has successfully concluded its participation in Exercise Pitch Black 2026 in Australia and Exercise Udara Shakti 2026 in Malaysia, reinforcing its operational capabilities and defence partnerships across the Indo-Pacific region.
During Exercise Pitch Black, hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), the IAF deployed its frontline Rafale fighter aircraft alongside air forces from more than 20 participating nations.
The IAF conducted complex Large Force Employment (LFE) missions in a high-threat, multi-domain environment. The exercise provided an opportunity for participating air forces to enhance tactical coordination, interoperability and operational understanding through joint missions and cross-learning.
Following the Australia deployment, the IAF contingent moved directly to Subang, Malaysia, to participate in Exercise Udara Shakti 2026 with the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).
During the bilateral exercise, IAF aircrew undertook high-intensity combat sorties and joint tactical manoeuvres, operating alongside and against Malaysian Su-30MKM and F/A-18 Hornet fighter aircraft.
The exercise focused on enhancing air combat tactics, conducting subject matter expert exchanges and improving operational flexibility between the two air forces.
The engagements also extended beyond flying operations, with personnel from both sides exchanging expertise in areas including aircraft maintenance and mission planning. Cultural interactions during the deployments further strengthened professional ties and camaraderie among the participating personnel.
The IAF said its participation in the two exercises reflects its commitment to enhancing regional stability, strengthening interoperability with partner air forces and promoting collaborative security initiatives through regular joint training and operational engagements.
