Marking Gandhi Jayanti and reinforcing the message of cleanliness and civic responsibility, 125 students and teachers from Army Public School, Tezpur, and Kendriya Vidy7alaya, Tezpur, participated in a cleanliness drive at Dekargaon Railway Station on Friday.
The participants cleaned the station premises and adjoining areas, collecting approximately 200 kg of garbage during the drive. The initiative highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness in public spaces and underscored the role of citizens in keeping their surroundings clean.
Beyond the physical act of cleaning, the drive provided students with an opportunity for experiential learning and community engagement. Through their participation, the young volunteers were encouraged to understand the values of dignity of labour, teamwork, discipline, civic consciousness and community responsibility.
The initiative also sought to translate civic values into meaningful action. By working together to clean a public space, the students experienced first-hand how collective participation can contribute to the well-being of the wider community.
The participation of school students and teachers further underlined the role of youth in promoting responsible citizenship. The activity encouraged them to look beyond individual responsibilities and recognise their contribution to the cleanliness and development of shared public spaces.
Organised on Gandhi Jayanti, the cleanliness campaign also reflected the broader message of community service and collective responsibility associated with the occasion. The initiative reinforced the idea that sustained civic participation, particularly among young people, can help build greater awareness about cleanliness and public responsibility.
The drive concluded with a renewed emphasis on the importance of responsible citizenship, community participation and youth-led initiatives in creating cleaner and more sustainable public spaces.
Clean surroundings, responsible citizens and active youth remain key building blocks of a stronger community and nation.
