Indian men’s hockey goalkeeper Subedar Suraj Karkera has reached a landmark moment in his international career, completing 100 senior international appearances for India during the ongoing Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026.
The milestone marks nearly a decade of service in the national colours for the 30-year-old goalkeeper, who made his senior international debut in 2017 and has since established himself as a key member of India’s goalkeeping unit.
A Decade of Service in the National Colours:
Karkera’s journey to 100 international caps has been built on consistency, discipline and years of competing at the highest level of international hockey.
Since his debut, he has represented India at several major continental tournaments and played an important role in the team’s campaigns across the years.
His medal-winning journey began with Asia Cup gold in 2017. He later added an Asian Champions Trophy bronze in 2021 and Asia Cup bronze in 2022 to his international record.
Karkera was also part of the Indian team that won the Hockey 5s Asia Cup gold in 2023, followed by another major triumph at the 2024 Asian Champions Trophy. In 2025, he was part of the Indian side that lifted the Asia Cup title.
Now, completing a century of senior international appearances on the Asian Games stage has added another significant chapter to his career.
A Landmark for Indian Hockey:
Reaching 100 international caps is a major achievement in any sport. For a goalkeeper, the milestone carries particular significance, given the consistency, concentration and composure required to compete at the highest level.

Karkera now joins the distinguished group of Indian hockey players who have represented the country in at least 100 senior international matches.
Hockey India congratulated Karkera on the achievement and recognised his contribution to the national team.
Hockey India President Dr Dilip Tirkey praised the goalkeeper’s composure and commitment whenever called upon to represent India.
“Heartiest congratulations to Suraj on reaching the remarkable milestone of 100 senior international appearances for India. As a goalkeeper, Suraj has shown great composure and commitment whenever called upon. I am confident he will continue to contribute strongly to the team,” Tirkey said.
Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh also hailed the achievement, saying the century of appearances reflected Karkera’s hard work, discipline and perseverance throughout his career.
From Debut to 100 Caps:
Karkera’s journey began with his senior international debut in 2017. Since then, he has competed alongside some of India’s leading hockey players and remained part of a highly competitive national goalkeeping setup.
His 100th appearance is therefore more than a numerical milestone. It represents years of preparation, competition and the responsibility of wearing the India jersey on some of the sport’s biggest stages.
With India continuing their campaign at the Asian Games in Japan, Karkera can now look back on a decade-long international journey that has brought him 100 senior appearances and multiple major continental honours.
From his debut in 2017 to his landmark appearance in 2026, Subedar Suraj Karkera’s journey stands as a testament to persistence, discipline and sustained service to Indian hockey.
