The Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹586 crore contract with Accurate Industrial Controls Private Limited for the procurement of Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) for the Indian Army’s T-72 and T-90 tanks.
The contract was signed in New Delhi on Monday in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
The indigenously developed APUs will provide an alternative source of electrical power for critical tank systems, including the fire control system, firing circuit, gun stabilisation system and other ancillary equipment.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the induction of these APUs is expected to enhance the operational readiness, reliability and sustainability of the Indian Army’s mechanised formations.
The procurement also marks a step towards greater indigenisation of critical subsystems used on armoured platforms. The project has been developed under the Make-II category, which supports industry-led research and development of defence technologies.
The Ministry said the contract demonstrates the effectiveness of the Make-II mechanism in taking indigenous innovations from development to production and eventual induction into the armed forces.
The agreement is also in line with the government’s broader objectives under Viksit Bharat @2047 and the push for Aatmanirbharta in Defence. The ministry said the initiative will contribute to building a more resilient, self-reliant and globally competitive Indian defence industry.
