Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh met Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of National Defence, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, in New Delhi on Sunday to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral defence cooperation and advance the India-Vietnam Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The meeting, held following the recent interaction between the Prime Ministers of India and Vietnam on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, focused on deepening defence ties, strengthening regional security and expanding cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
The two sides discussed accelerating joint initiatives, promoting technology sharing and enhancing defence industrial collaboration. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening maritime and defence cooperation to contribute to a peaceful, stable and rules-based regional security environment.
India and Vietnam also stressed the importance of closer coordination through multilateral platforms, particularly the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus). Both sides underscored the role of ASEAN-led mechanisms and ADMM-Plus Experts’ Working Groups in promoting practical defence cooperation, regional stability and collective security in the Indo-Pacific.
During the meeting, the two countries agreed to hold the next Defence Policy Dialogue in India on the sidelines of Aero India 2027.
The interaction reflects the growing momentum in India-Vietnam defence relations and builds on the strategic direction outlined by the two Prime Ministers during their meeting at the BRICS Summit.
