Indian football fans are set for another major international spectacle as two-time FIFA World Cup champions Uruguay will take on India in a friendly at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on October 6.
The fixture will be India’s third high-profile international friendly during the upcoming FIFA window, following the Blue Tigers’ clash against Panama in Bengaluru on September 26 and the much-anticipated encounter against five-time world champions Brazil in Kolkata on October 3.
Uruguay, one of the most decorated teams in international football, are currently ranked 20th in the FIFA World Ranking and will provide a formidable test for the Indian side.
The Uruguayan national team is coached by former striker Diego Forlán, who had a stint with Indian Super League club Mumbai City FC in 2016.
With Panama, Brazil and Uruguay all set to visit India during the same international window, the country is poised to witness an unprecedented run of high-profile international football.
For the Indian team, the demanding schedule will offer valuable exposure against three World Cup-playing nations and provide a strong competitive test against some of the world’s established footballing powers.
The Uruguay fixture will also give Kolkata football fans another opportunity to witness a global heavyweight at the iconic Yuba Bharati Krirangan, which has hosted several major international football fixtures over the years.
