The Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata will usher in a new decade of distance running when its 11th edition takes place on Sunday, December 20, 2026, with the race starting from the iconic Red Road.
The World Athletics Gold Label 25K has grown over the past decade into one of India’s premier road-running events, bringing together elite athletes, amateur runners and communities while strengthening Kolkata’s profile on the international sporting map.
Registrations for the on-ground and virtual races opened on August 13 at 7 a.m. IST through the official race platform. On-ground entries for the 25K, Open 10K, Ananda Run, Senior Citizen Run and Champions with Disability Run will remain open until November 27, or until places are filled. Virtual entries for the 25K, Open 10K and 5K close on December 11, subject to availability.
All 25K participants must submit a valid timing certificate. Dedicated registration windows have also been introduced for Good for Youth (18–21 years) and Good for Silver (65 years and above) in the 25K and 10K categories.
The 2026 edition introduces several runner-focused initiatives, including a specially crafted ‘Medal of Steel’ for every 25K finisher, a debut bib for first-time participants and the Home Run Squad, recognising families of four or more registered runners.
West Bengal Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Dr. Indranil Khan highlighted the event’s role in exposing emerging athletes to global competition, while Tourism and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shankar Ghosh underlined its contribution to showcasing Kolkata internationally.
Tata Steel Vice President – Corporate Services D. B. Sundara Ramam said the event’s success should be measured not only by participation but by the culture of fitness, community and aspiration it creates.
Former Indian Football Captain Bhaichung Bhutia also emphasised the race’s role in promoting discipline, active lifestyles and Kolkata’s sporting identity.
With the theme “Aamar Kolkata. Shonar Kolkata,” the Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata enters its next decade seeking to expand its sporting, social and community impact while inspiring a new generation of runners.
