The self-declared “Republic of Balochistan” has welcomed India’s position on alleged human-rights violations in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), while calling for greater international scrutiny of the situation in Balochistan and other Pakistan-controlled territories.
In a statement following the Ministry of External Affairs briefing, the Baoch leader Mir Yar Baloch praised MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal’s call for accountability over alleged abuses in PoJK. It acknowledged that Balochistan was not specifically mentioned but said it welcomed India’s broader position on human rights and accountability.
“The Republic of Balochistan believes that the international community now has a shared responsibility to stand up for human rights and to join the growing concern over violations reported in Balochistan, PoJK, Gilgit-Baltistan, and other regions under Pakistan’s illegal control.”-as said by Mir Yar Baloch.
The statement said the Baloch people deserve “dignity, freedom, justice” and the right to determine their political future. It called for international recognition of Balochistan’s independence and intervention in PoJK, alleging serious abuses against Baloch and Kashmiri communities. These allegations remain contested and could not be independently verified.
The statement also directly endorsed India’s position on PoK, with Baloch leader Mir Yar Baloch posting:
“Balochistan fully supports India’s decision to ask Pakistan to vacate PoK”.
The intervention marks another attempt by Baloch separatist leaders to internationalise their independence campaign and connect their political demands with India’s increasingly forceful criticism of Pakistan’s administration of PoJK.
The self-declared “Republic of Balochistan” has also called on the United Nations to recognise Balochistan as an independent country and provide international assistance. The entity remains unrecognised internationally, while Balochistan continues to be administered by Pakistan.
The statement nevertheless sends a politically sharp message:
Baloch leaders want the alleged human-rights situation in Balochistan placed firmly on the international agenda and see India’s position on PoJK as an important diplomatic platform for advancing that campaign.
The Baloch leadership said it appreciated Jaiswal’s remarks even though Balochistan was not specifically mentioned by MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
“While Balochistan was not specifically mentioned by his excellency but we value India’s broader call for accountability and respect for human rights.”
That wording is important. Rather than claiming that India had formally endorsed the Baloch independence movement, the statement attempts to interpret New Delhi’s broader human-rights position as compatible with the Baloch cause.
