Indian Naval Sail Training Ship (INS) Sudarshini arrived in Boston on July 12 following its successful participation in the Sail4th 250 celebrations in New York, continuing its transoceanic Lokayan 2026 expedition aimed at strengthening maritime diplomacy and international engagement.
The ship participated in the Grand Parade of Sails, the ceremonial opening event of Sail Boston 2026, joining an international fleet of more than 60 tall ships representing over 20 nations. The participation underscores the Indian Navy’s growing role in fostering maritime cooperation, cultural outreach, and goodwill across the globe.
During the ceremonial entry into Boston, Raghuram Sastry, Consul General of India in Boston, embarked aboard INS Sudarshini. Flying the Indian Tricolour, the vessel sailed past prominent landmarks, including Castle Island and the Seaport District, before berthing at Boston Fish Pier.
As India’s maritime ambassador during the Lokayan 2026 expedition, INS Sudarshini is showcasing the country’s rich seafaring heritage while promoting closer naval and people-to-people ties. The ship will remain open to visitors from July 12 to 15, providing an opportunity for the public to engage with the Indian Navy and learn about India’s maritime traditions.
The Boston port call follows successful visits to Norfolk, Baltimore, and New York, reflecting the steady progress of the Lokayan 2026 voyage. The deployment also contributes to the expanding India–US maritime partnership, reinforcing bilateral cooperation through naval outreach, professional engagement, and cultural exchange.
INS Sudarshini’s participation in Sail Boston 2026 highlights the Indian Navy’s continued emphasis on maritime diplomacy, strengthening international partnerships, and enhancing India’s presence in major global maritime events.
