Lieutenant General Girish Kalia, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Spear Corps, conducted a comprehensive review of operational preparedness during his visit to an Assam Rifles Battalion deployed along the strategically significant Indo-Myanmar Border in Mizoram.
During the visit, the Corps Commander was briefed on the prevailing security environment, operational readiness, border management measures and ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening surveillance and maintaining stability in the region. The review focused on enhancing preparedness against evolving security challenges while ensuring effective border domination.
Interacting with troops, Lt Gen Kalia commended the battalion for its professionalism, commitment and operational excellence under demanding conditions. He praised the formation’s consistent achievements in counter-insurgency operations, anti-narcotics missions and border security tasks, highlighting the pivotal role of the Assam Rifles in safeguarding India’s northeastern frontier.
The Army Commander also visited the Bevela Lushai Centre, where he appreciated the institution’s contribution to empowering the youth of Mizoram through quality education and skill development. Describing the centre as a symbol of opportunity, he noted its role in preparing young people for professional careers while contributing to the region’s social and economic progress.
Emphasising the importance of a balanced approach to security, Lt Gen Kalia underlined that operational effectiveness must be complemented by strong civil-military engagement. He highlighted that community outreach initiatives remain essential in building trust, promoting development and fostering long-term peace across the Northeast.
The visit reaffirmed the Indian Army and Assam Rifles’ commitment to maintaining a high state of operational readiness while advancing people-centric initiatives that strengthen ties with local communities. Officials said the interaction boosted troop morale and reinforced the force’s unwavering focus on vigilance, mission readiness and securing India’s eastern borders.
