In view of the rising incidence of myocardial infarction and coronary artery disease, Military Hospital Agartala conducted a three-day awareness and training initiative for troops stationed at Agartala Military Station. The programme aimed to enhance awareness regarding cardiovascular emergencies and strengthen first responder capabilities.
A total of 203 personnel from various units participated in the sessions, which focused on the recognition and immediate management of sudden cardiac arrest through effective Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Medical teams from the Military Hospital visited units across the station and highlighted the importance of timely intervention in saving lives before definitive emergency care can be accessed. Participants were sensitised to risk factors and preventive aspects of coronary artery disease, while practical demonstrations reinforced essential life-saving skills.
A key feature of the programme was hands-on familiarisation with the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and CPR techniques on manikins, enabling participants to gain confidence in managing real-life emergencies.
The initiative significantly contributed towards improving medical emergency awareness and empowering troops with critical life-saving skills. It underscores the Indian Army’s commitment to preventive healthcare, operational readiness and ensuring that every soldier is equipped to act decisively in times of medical emergencies.
