The 135th edition of the Durand Cup organised by the Indian Army will be held from July 25 to August 23, 2026, extending the remarkable legacy of Asia’s oldest football tournament and the world’s third-oldest surviving football competition.
The prestigious tournament will once again feature 24 teams, including two foreign sides, and will be staged across five host cities and six venues, underscoring its growing stature within Indian football.
Ranchi Debuts as Host City:
For the first time in the competition’s history, Ranchi will join the list of host cities, alongside Kolkata, Guwahati, Imphal and Shillong.
Matches will be played at six venues: Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata,Kishore Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata,Birsa Munda Stadium, Ranchi,Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Guwahati,Khuman Lampak Stadium, Imphal and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong.
The expansion reflects the tournament’s continued efforts to strengthen its presence across eastern and north-eastern India, regions that have become central to the competition’s modern resurgence.

Now entering its landmark 135th edition, the Durand Cup remains one of the most historic football tournaments in the world and a cornerstone of the Indian football calendar.
For more than a century, the competition has served as a proving ground for emerging talent, offering young players the opportunity to compete against some of the country’s strongest teams while earning recognition on the national stage.
A defining characteristic of the Durand Cup has been its ability to unite every level of Indian football. Growth Since Eastern India Transition:
Since relocating to eastern India in 2019, the Durand Cup has undergone significant expansion. The tournament has grown from a 16-team competition to a 24-team event and has re-established itself as one of India’s premier football tournaments.
Organised by the Eastern Command of the Indian Army on behalf of the three Services, the Durand Cup remains unique in bringing together military teams and top professional clubs. Recent editions have also featured international participation, including Army teams from neighbouring countries, further enhancing the tournament’s competitive appeal.
Strong Field Expected for 2026 Edition:
The 2026 tournament will once again feature a diverse lineup of leading Indian clubs, Services teams and two foreign participants. Organisers have confirmed that details regarding team participation, group-stage draws, fixtures and the knockout schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
The competition will culminate on August 23, when the champions will lift the iconic Durand Cup trophy and add their names to the rich history of a tournament that has helped shape Indian football for nearly 140 years.
