In a significant success against contraband trafficking, Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), seized a large consignment of poppy seeds valued at approximately ₹1.31 crore in Assam’s Cachar district.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of contraband, the joint team launched an operation along the Silchar Bypass Road on the evening of June 20, 2026. During the operation, security personnel intercepted a Tata truck carrying 8,764 kg of poppy seeds.
Two individuals, both residents of Silchar, were apprehended in connection with the case. In addition to the contraband consignment, one Tata truck and two mobile handsets were also seized.
The recovered poppy seeds and the apprehended individuals have been handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Assam Rifles and the DRI have been actively conducting coordinated operations across the region to curb contraband trafficking and dismantle illegal supply networks. The latest seizure represents another significant achievement in ongoing efforts to combat trans-border and interstate smuggling activities in the Northeast.
Security agencies continue to maintain a high operational tempo in the region, leveraging intelligence-based operations to disrupt trafficking networks and strengthen law enforcement efforts.
