Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday addressed the Outreach Session on “Ensuring a Safe, Rapid and Efficient Rollout of Artificial Intelligence” at the G7 Summit in Evian, France, emphasizing the need for a human-centric approach to the development and deployment of AI technologies.
Describing artificial intelligence as a transformative force capable of reshaping human civilization, Modi said the technology must be used to empower people and serve the public good. He referred to India’s recent AI Impact Summit and highlighted the country’s “MANAV” (human-centric) vision for AI, which is based on the principles of inclusivity, security and public welfare.
The Prime Minister said India views cyberspace as a global public good and stressed that democratic nations should have access to AI models capable of protecting critical information infrastructure and countering cyber threats.
Calling for an integrated approach to AI governance, Modi said safety, speed and efficiency must be addressed simultaneously. He proposed four key measures: ensuring AI systems are safe by design; establishing common standards, testing frameworks and regulatory guidelines for deployment; strengthening global cooperation to combat deepfakes, misinformation and cyber fraud; and extending the benefits of AI to countries in the Global South to promote inclusive development.
Concluding his address, Modi said AI should expand human potential, enhance human choice and safeguard human dignity. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to working with international partners to advance these objectives.
