Jorhat, Assam: An Indian Air Force (IAF) Antonov An-32 tactical transport aircraft was involved in an accident during landing operations at Rowriah Airport, home to the Air Force Station Jorhat, today.
According to initial reports, the aircraft experienced a mishap while landing, following which a fire broke out. Emergency response teams at the air base were immediately activated and moved swiftly to secure the aircraft and contain the situation. Further details regarding the extent of damage and the status of personnel on board are awaited.

The Antonov An-32 is a twin-engine turboprop military transport aircraft that forms an important component of the Indian Air Force’s tactical airlift capability. Designed for operations in demanding environments, the aircraft is extensively employed for troop transportation, logistics support, casualty evacuation, humanitarian assistance missions and the movement of critical supplies to remote, mountainous and high-altitude regions across the country.

For decades, the An-32 fleet has served as a workhorse of the Indian Air Force, particularly in the Eastern and Northern sectors, supporting operational requirements in some of the most challenging terrains in the world. Its ability to operate from short and semi-prepared airstrips has made it a vital asset for sustaining military deployments and ensuring connectivity to forward locations.

An investigation is expected to be initiated to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident, in accordance with established Indian Air Force flight safety procedures.

More information is likely to be released as official assessments become available.
