On the occasion of World Health Day, Howrah Division of Eastern Railway, in collaboration with NCC Sub-Unit and 2 Bengal Battalion NCC, organized an Awareness Drive and Community Development Programme today at Howrah Railway Station. The programme, themed “Prithvi Raksha – Swasthya Jagarukta Abhiyan,” aimed at promoting environmental conservation and health awareness among the public.

The event was graced by Major General Amarpal Singh Chahal, SM, ADG West Bengal & Sikkim NCC Directorate, as the Chief Guest. The programme was also attended by distinguished Guests of Honour including Uday Kumar Keshari, ADRM, Howrah; Brigadier Yogesh Kulkarni, Group Commander Kolkata-B; Colonel Avijit Das, Commanding Officer, 2 Bengal Battalion NCC and other dignitaries.

The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a group song performed by NCC cadets. Dignitaries were felicitated, beginning with the Chief Guest and followed by other esteemed guests, in recognition of their presence and contributions.

This was followed by insightful addresses by the Chief Guest, Maj Gen Chahal by highlighting the importance of environmental sustainability, public health awareness, and the role of youth in fostering a healthier society.

A key highlight of the programme was the release of the book titled “Boro Ghori,” which added a cultural dimension to the event. The programme further featured an impactful nukkad natak performed by NCC cadets, effectively conveying messages on environmental protection and health awareness to the public.

The event concluded with the rendition of the national song followed by the national anthem, marking a fitting end to a meaningful and engaging programme. The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from NCC cadets, railway personnel, and members of the public, reaffirming Howrah Division’s commitment to community engagement and social responsibility.

GENERAL APS CHAHAL’S CONTRIBUTION AS ADG NCC WB & SIKKIM:

Under the able guidance of Gen Chahal, NCC West Bengal has made remarkable contributions to nation-building by shaping disciplined, responsible, and service-oriented youth. His leadership has strengthened training programs, encouraged participation in social service, and inspired cadets to take active roles in community development. NCC WB cadets have contributed through disaster relief, environmental campaigns, and national initiatives, fostering unity and patriotism. Gen Chahal’s vision has also motivated many cadets to join the armed forces, thereby enhancing national security and creating a strong foundation of dedicated future citizens for the country.
