Indian Navy Marine Commando (MARCOS) and Shaurya Chakra awardee Amit Singh Rana (32) died in a tragic road accident late Monday night in the Lahadu area of Khandian under the Jwalamukhi subdivision of Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district.

According to police, Rana was returning home after meeting a friend when he lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a sharp bend near Lahadu at around 11 p.m. The car reportedly veered off the road and plunged nearly 500 feet into a deep gorge.

Dehra Superintendent of Police Mayank Chaudhary confirmed the accident. Local residents rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. After several hours of effort, they managed to retrieve Rana from the ravine around midnight and rushed him to Khandian Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The untimely death of the decorated soldier has sent shockwaves across the region. His last rites were performed with full military honors in his native village on Tuesday. Jwalamukhi MLA Sanjay Ratna expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and paid tribute to Rana’s distinguished service to the nation.
Rana is survived by his parents, wife, four-year-old son, and two sisters.

A highly respected member of the Indian Navy’s elite MARCOS force, Rana was awarded the prestigious Shaurya Chakra for displaying exceptional courage during counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir. During Operation Rakshak in 2018, he participated in several high-risk missions targeting terrorist hideouts under extremely challenging conditions.

According to available information, Rana played a crucial role in a series of successful operations that led to the elimination of eight terrorists. His bravery, determination, and professional excellence in difficult terrain and dense forest areas earned him widespread recognition and one of India’s highest peacetime gallantry awards.
The nation mourns the loss of a brave soldier whose service and sacrifice will be remembered with pride and gratitude.
