Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday underscored the Armed Forces’ readiness to respond to future contingencies, stating that the Indian Army, along with the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy, is fully prepared for a potential next phase of Operation Sindoor should the need arise.
Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the passing-out parade of the 150th course of the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune, the Army Chief highlighted the importance of jointness and integration among the three services in addressing the challenges of modern warfare.
“As far as Operation Sindoor is concerned, firstly, it is still continuing.There is a temporary cessation of hostilities. So the Indian Army and all the three services are preparing well for Operation Sindoor 2.0 if it takes place,” he said.
Operation Sindoor was launched by India in May 2025 to target and dismantle terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan following the April 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives.
Lt Gen Dwivedi emphasized that future military operations would increasingly extend beyond the traditional domains of land, air and sea, incorporating emerging dimensions such as space, cyber and cognitive warfare. He noted that the evolving character of warfare demands enhanced synergy and preparedness across all services.
Highlighting the changing nature of the battlefield, the Army Chief pointed to the growing impact of surveillance and real-time intelligence capabilities on military operations.
“What we have seen over a period of time is 24/7. The battlefield is so transparent that every movement is known to the other side. Therefore, we have to be very cautious in terms of our deployment, in terms of our employment, and the protection which is required to protect our troops as well as the civilians in the border areas,” he said.
The Army Chief’s remarks reflect the Armed Forces’ continued focus on operational preparedness, force protection and integrated warfighting capabilities amid an evolving regional security environment.
