A 100-foot-high National Flag was inaugurated at Padum in Zanskar district of Ladakh on Thursday in a major initiative by the Indian Army aimed at promoting patriotism, national integration and civic pride in the remote Himalayan region.
Towering over the dramatic Zanskar landscape, the Tricolour is set to become a prominent landmark in Padum, the headquarters of Zanskar district, and a visible symbol of the Indian Army’s commitment to communities living in remote and strategically important areas.
The initiative was undertaken to strengthen the spirit of national unity and inspire the younger generation by highlighting values of patriotism, sacrifice, service and dedication to the nation.
Visible from across the valley, the imposing flag is expected to serve as a source of pride for local residents as well as visitors to the region.
Army, Civil Administration Join Hands:
The project was executed through a joint effort by the Indian Army and the Civil Administration of Zanskar District. Alongside the installation of the flag, renovation and beautification works were undertaken around the site to improve its appearance and enhance the surrounding public space.
The initiative underlines the importance of civil-military cooperation in advancing development, public welfare and nation-building in some of Ladakh’s most remote areas.
Padum: Gateway to Zanskar:
Located at an altitude of around 3,670 metres, Padum holds considerable historical, cultural and geographical significance in Ladakh. The town is known for its ancient Buddhist heritage, monasteries and distinctive Zanskar culture and serves as a gateway to the remote villages and spectacular landscapes of the Zanskar Valley.
The installation of the towering Tricolour adds a new landmark to the region, reflecting both its strategic importance and the strong sense of national identity among its people.
The Indian Army reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare and development of border areas and acknowledged the support extended by the civil administration and residents of Zanskar in completing the initiative.
The 100-foot National Flag at Padum now stands as a symbol of national pride, unity and the enduring bond of trust and mutual respect between the Indian Army and the people of Ladakh.
