Member of Parliament from Sikkim, Shri Indra Hang Subba, visited Project Swastik at Gangtok and reviewed the ongoing road restoration and infrastructure resilience measures being undertaken by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in the State.
During the visit, Shri Subba interacted with Brig Amit Sakhre, Chief Engineer, Project Swastik, and was briefed on the restoration and upgradation of flood-damaged roads, strengthening of vulnerable stretches, slope stabilisation, drainage improvement and protective works aimed at ensuring reliable all-weather connectivity across Sikkim’s challenging terrain.
Particular emphasis was placed on climate- and geology-resilient infrastructure solutions to enhance the survivability of critical road networks against landslides, floods and other extreme weather events.
The MP was apprised of planned slope stabilisation measures on critical road stretches, including the Singtam–Dikchu road, which continues to face disruptions due to frequent landslides. He was also briefed on river training works undertaken at Phidang Bridge, Zeema and Rabom Chu Bridges to strengthen infrastructure against riverine and flood-related threats.
Shri Subba was further updated on the sustained efforts of BRO personnel at Taram Chu, where Project Swastik has been working continuously since 18 April 2026 to restore connectivity across the landslide-affected area.
The Chief Engineer also briefed the MP on planned bridge and tunnel infrastructure projects in North Sikkim, which are expected to improve long-term connectivity and reduce the hardships faced by people living in remote and strategically important areas.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress of the ongoing works, Shri Indra Hang Subba appreciated the BRO’s swift response during natural calamities and its sustained efforts to reopen critical road links and restore connectivity to remote and cut-off areas despite challenging terrain and adverse weather conditions.
The visit reaffirmed the BRO’s commitment to nation building, disaster preparedness and climate-resilient infrastructure development, while strengthening all-weather connectivity and supporting the people of Sikkim.
