Assam Rifles intensified its community outreach across Manipur through a series of cultural, youth-focused and patriotic initiatives, commemorating World Tribal Day, 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’ and the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.
Celebrating Indigenous Heritage:
Assam Rifles observed World Tribal Day on August 9 across Larong Khunou, Larong Khullen and Vomku in Chandel district and Kwatha in Tengnoupal district, bringing together tribal leaders, village elders, women, youth, students and local residents.
At Kwatha, 73 civilians participated in the celebrations, with community members dressed in traditional Anal Naga and Lamkang Naga attire showcasing the region’s rich indigenous heritage. Interactive sessions highlighted the importance of preserving tribal languages, customs and traditional knowledge while encouraging younger generations to remain connected to their cultural roots.
The programme also emphasised unity, mutual respect, harmony and responsible citizenship, strengthening bonds of trust and goodwill between Assam Rifles and local communities.
Youth Engagement and ‘Vande Mataram’ Campaign:
From August 4 to 9, an Annual Training Camp and youth outreach programme at Kha Manipur College, Kakching, brought together 450 NCC cadets, 65 Assam Rifles personnel and Associate NCC Officers.
The camp featured sessions on physical fitness, discipline, health and sanitation, along with lessons on the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891 and the Khongjom War Memorial. Career guidance on opportunities in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, along with a military equipment display, further enhanced the programme.
The campaign also reached schools and communities in Chandel district. At Joupi Government Aided Primary School, students participated in the rendition of ‘Vande Mataram’, historical discussions, poster displays and National Flag distribution. An awareness programme at Mombi similarly highlighted the national song’s contribution to India’s freedom movement and national consciousness.
Tiranga Runs and Rallies Promote National Unity:
Community participation continued with a Swachhata Abhiyan at Pallel, where 50 residents joined Assam Rifles personnel in promoting cleanliness and civic responsibility. A patriotic film screening on India’s freedom fighters was also organised for local residents and youth.
On August 10, Tiranga runs and rallies were conducted across Chandel, Ukhrul and Kamjong districts. At Mombi Village, 28 villagers participated in the ‘Tiranga Run 2026’ under the theme ‘Har Ghar Tiranga – Desh Ki Shaan’, followed by house-to-house National Flag distribution.
At Shangshak Garrison in Ukhrul, 45 students and 10 teachers joined troops in a Tricolour march commemorating 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’. A Tiranga Rally from Kongkan Post to Lakhan Khuman Village in Kamjong further brought troops and residents together in a display of patriotism and social cohesion.
Through the series of initiatives, Assam Rifles combined cultural preservation, youth development, civic engagement and patriotic outreach, reinforcing civil-military ties and contributing to the broader objective of national integration across Manipur.
