The National Cadet Corps (NCC) received a significant boost in its efforts to expand youth development and nation-building initiatives in West Bengal after Additional Director General (ADG), NCC, West Bengal & Sikkim Directorate, called on West Bengal Governor Shri R. N. Ravi at Lok Bhawan.
During the meeting, the ADG briefed the Governor on the Directorate’s wide-ranging initiatives aimed at empowering young people through discipline, leadership, skill development and character building. The interaction focused on the NCC’s expanding role in preparing youth to become responsible citizens while contributing to national development through community engagement and social responsibility.
The ADG outlined several innovative skilling programmes designed to enhance the employability and leadership capabilities of cadets. The Governor was informed about the Directorate’s efforts to equip young men and women with practical life skills alongside military-oriented training, enabling them to contribute effectively to society and the nation’s progress.
The discussion also covered the NCC’s growing involvement in social outreach and community development activities across West Bengal. From awareness campaigns and environmental conservation drives to disaster response support, blood donation camps and civic action programmes, the Directorate highlighted how NCC cadets are actively participating in initiatives that strengthen the bond between the Armed Forces and civil society while fostering a spirit of volunteerism among the youth.
A major highlight of the interaction was the presentation on the exceptional achievements of West Bengal NCC cadets at national-level camps and competitions. The ADG apprised the Governor of the cadets’ outstanding performances in leadership, adventure activities, cultural events and other prestigious NCC platforms, reflecting the high standards of training and commitment within the Directorate.
The Governor also interacted with several distinguished cadets who have excelled at various national competitions and camps. Congratulating them on their achievements, Shri Ravi commended their dedication, discipline and commitment to excellence, describing them as role models for the younger generation. He encouraged the cadets to continue striving for excellence while upholding the core values of the NCC—unity, discipline and selfless service.
Appreciating the NCC’s enduring contribution towards shaping responsible, patriotic and socially conscious citizens, the Governor assured the Directorate of his wholehearted support in addressing challenges and strengthening NCC activities across the state. He emphasised the importance of expanding opportunities for young people through initiatives that promote leadership, character development and national integration.
