Assam Rifles celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga across multiple locations in Manipur, bringing together security personnel and civilians in a coordinated effort to promote health, wellness and community engagement.
The events marked the culmination of a 100-day yoga awareness campaign conducted across Assam Rifles formations. The campaign included daily yoga sessions, health awareness programmes, interactive discussions and online outreach activities aligned with this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”
More than 1,200 participants, including troops, local villagers, students, women, youth groups and village authorities, took part in the celebrations held across the state. Yoga sessions were organised at key military establishments and community locations in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Noney, Ukhrul, Kakching, Chandel and Tengnoupal districts, as well as at several forward posts along the Indo-Myanmar border.
Under the supervision of trained instructors, participants performed the Common Yoga Protocol comprising asanas, pranayama, breathing exercises and meditation techniques. The sessions focused on enhancing physical fitness, flexibility, mental well-being and emotional resilience.
Assam Rifles highlighted the role of yoga in improving immunity, cardiovascular health and respiratory efficiency, particularly during the monsoon season. For troops deployed in challenging operational environments, yoga was emphasised as an important tool for stress management, discipline and maintaining operational readiness.
The programme concluded with community interaction sessions and a collective pledge by participants to continue regular yoga practice. Defence officials said the initiative not only promoted holistic wellness but also strengthened engagement between security forces and local communities across the state.
The large-scale observance reflected Assam Rifles’ continued efforts to foster health awareness, social harmony and civil-military cooperation in Manipur.
