In a significant outreach initiative aimed at promoting physical well-being, mental resilience and community harmony, Assam Rifles organised a series of yoga and wellness programmes across multiple districts of Manipur to commemorate the 12th International Day of Yoga. Conducted under the global theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” the events underscored the importance of preventive healthcare, disciplined living and holistic wellness for all sections of society.
The extensive campaign spanned the districts of Churachandpur, Kakching, Tengnoupal and Chandel, covering remote border areas and population centres alike. Yoga sessions were conducted simultaneously at several locations, reflecting the force’s commitment to fostering health awareness and strengthening engagement with local communities.
In Churachandpur district, the main celebrations were held at Khuga and Veng, alongside parallel sessions at various operational bases. Similar programmes were organised at Pallel Garrison in Kakching district, while large-scale participation was witnessed at Moreh, Kwatha, Sita and Khudengthabi in Tengnoupal district. Additional sessions were conducted at Modi and Chandel town, bringing together participants from diverse backgrounds.
The multi-location initiative recorded an impressive participation of approximately 2,372 individuals, including local residents, students, NCC cadets, Agniveer aspirants, family members, civil officials and security personnel. The events highlighted strong civil-military cooperation, with nearly 1,892 security personnel and government representatives joining hands with local communities in the collective pursuit of health and wellness.
A notable feature of the celebrations was the participation of personnel from multiple agencies in the border town of Moreh, where representatives of the Border Security Force, Immigration Bureau and Integrated Check Post joined local residents and Assam Rifles personnel in the yoga sessions, showcasing inter-agency coordination and community partnership.
The programmes were conducted under expert guidance to ensure maximum benefit for participants. At Pallel Garrison, yoga instructor Mrs. Elangbam Anita, a senior faculty member of the Art of Living International Organisation, led participants through a series of yoga asanas, breathing exercises and meditation techniques designed to improve physical fitness, enhance concentration and reduce stress.
Extending the outreach beyond physical participation, Assam Rifles utilised its community radio platform, CRS Radio Highway, to broadcast special programmes on yoga, wellness and healthy lifestyle practices. The broadcasts aimed to spread awareness on stress management, mental well-being and preventive healthcare among wider sections of society.
The week-long initiative reinforced the relevance of yoga as a practical tool for improving overall health, emotional balance and self-discipline. By actively engaging youth, families and border communities, Assam Rifles not only promoted a culture of fitness and wellness but also strengthened the bonds of trust and cooperation between the security forces and the people of Manipur.
The successful culmination of the events reaffirmed Assam Rifles’ enduring commitment to community outreach, nation-building and the promotion of healthy living, while highlighting the transformative role of yoga in fostering individual well-being and collective harmony.
