In a move aimed at strengthening youth engagement and expanding the reach of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), the Ministry of Defence has approved the establishment of two new independent NCC State Directorates in Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand.

With the addition of the two directorates, the total number of NCC State Directorates across the country will increase from 17 to 19, marking a significant expansion of the organisation’s administrative and training infrastructure.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the creation of dedicated directorates will improve command and control mechanisms, enhance coordination with educational institutions, and provide more effective supervision of training and developmental activities. The move is expected to bring NCC administration closer to cadets, enabling faster decision-making and improved implementation of youth development programmes.

The new directorates will also facilitate greater participation by students in NCC activities and provide enhanced access to training resources, leadership development opportunities, and skill-building initiatives in both states.
The decision aligns with the government’s broader vision of empowering India’s youth and strengthening nation-building efforts through disciplined, service-oriented training. Defence officials stated that the expanded administrative framework will help develop a larger pool of confident, skilled, and socially responsible young citizens.

Established in 1948 with an initial strength of 20,000 cadets, the National Cadet Corps has evolved into the world’s largest uniformed youth organisation, currently comprising more than 2 million cadets. Between 2014 and 2025, NCC expanded by approximately 600,000 cadets and now has a presence in over 750 districts nationwide.
The latest expansion is expected to further enhance the organisation’s capacity to nurture leadership, discipline, and patriotism among the country’s youth while supporting the vision of a stronger and more self-reliant India.
