In a major boost to India’s strategic defence preparedness, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully demonstrated a suite of advanced missile defence and strike technologies through a series of flight trials conducted on June 10 and 11, 2026.
The tests showcased India’s growing capability to counter a wide spectrum of aerial threats, including long-range ballistic missiles, while also enhancing its maritime strike potential. Three consecutive flight trials validated key components of the country’s evolving multi-layered defence architecture.
A significant highlight of the trials was the successful demonstration of the Multi-Layered Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) system. During the tests, interceptor missiles accurately engaged and neutralised their designated targets, confirming the effectiveness of indigenous technologies developed to address emerging missile threats.
According to DRDO, the successful validation places India among a select group of nations possessing advanced BMD capabilities capable of engaging threats ranging from short-range ballistic missiles to intercontinental-class targets.
In a parallel achievement, DRDO successfully conducted the maiden flight test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Medium Range (NASM-MR). The missile is expected to strengthen the Indian Navy’s stand-off strike capabilities against hostile surface combatants at medium ranges.
Senior officials from DRDO and the Armed Forces witnessed the trials, which mark another milestone in India’s pursuit of self-reliance in critical defence technologies.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and all stakeholders involved, describing the successful demonstrations as a testament to India’s growing technological prowess in strategic defence systems.
Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO, Rajesh Kumar Singh, closely monitored the trials and commended the collective efforts of DRDO scientists, industry partners, and the armed forces in achieving the successful outcomes.
The successful demonstrations further reinforce India’s indigenous defence development programme and underscore the country’s commitment to building a robust, multi-layered deterrence capability against evolving security challenges.
