    Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing, reviewing bilateral relations and exploring ways to strengthen cooperation across a range of sectors.
    Welcoming the Myanmar leader, Modi said India was honoured that President Min Aung Hlaing had chosen India for his first overseas visit since assuming office. He also expressed satisfaction that the President began his India visit with a pilgrimage to Bodh Gaya, one of Buddhism’s holiest sites.

    During the discussions, the two leaders reviewed the entire spectrum of India-Myanmar relations and identified opportunities to deepen engagement in trade, rare earth minerals, healthcare, connectivity, heritage restoration and capacity building.
    The leaders also agreed to enhance cooperation in maritime security, cyber security and other areas of mutual interest.

    Reaffirming the strategic significance of bilateral ties, Prime Minister Modi said Myanmar occupies a central place in India’s Neighbourhood First, Act East and Indo-Pacific policies, underscoring New Delhi’s commitment to further strengthening the partnership.

    The Prime Minister wrote on X;

    “Had a productive meeting with President U Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar. We in India are honoured that he has chosen India for his first foreign visit as President. Equally gladdening is the fact that he began the visit from Bodh Gaya, with the blessings of Lord Buddha. We reviewed the full range of India-Myanmar relations. Myanmar is vital to India’s policies of ‘Neighbourhood First’, ‘Act East’ and Indo-Pacific.”

    “Our talks covered ways to deepen cooperation in trade, rare earths, healthcare, connectivity, heritage restoration and capacity building. We also agreed to work closely in areas such as maritime security, cyber security and more.”
