In a proactive effort to strengthen operational preparedness ahead of the monsoon season, Assam Rifles conducted a five-day Boatmanship Training Cadre for personnel deployed across Mizoram from May 26 to 30.
The specialized training programme brought together troops from various Assam Rifles units operating in the state, focusing on enhancing their capability to conduct operations in flood-prone and geographically challenging environments. The cadre covered a wide spectrum of skills, including boat handling, river navigation, flood rescue operations, casualty evacuation procedures, outboard motor management, water safety protocols and tactical river-crossing techniques.
Throughout the training, participants underwent intensive practical sessions designed to improve their proficiency in responding to emergencies and maintaining operational effectiveness during adverse weather conditions. The programme aimed to ensure that troops remain capable of executing both operational and humanitarian assistance tasks in remote and inaccessible areas affected by monsoon-related disruptions.
The training concluded with a comprehensive field exercise featuring river-crossing operations and rescue drills, providing an opportunity to validate the skills acquired during the course under realistic conditions.
The initiative underscores Assam Rifles’ continued emphasis on maintaining a high state of operational readiness and disaster response capability in the North East. With the monsoon season approaching, the force remains prepared to support civil authorities and local communities in relief and rescue operations whenever required.
Known as the “Sentinels of the North East,” Assam Rifles continues to play a vital role not only in safeguarding the region’s security but also in providing critical assistance during natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies.
