    20 Indian Army Athletes Named in Commonwealth Games Squad

    Soldier-athletes of the Indian Army will play a significant role in India’s campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, with 20 Army athletes earning places in the country’s 126-member contingent.

    Representing various disciplines, the soldier-athletes are expected to be among India’s key medal contenders as the nation aims for a strong performance at the Games. Their selection reflects the Indian Army’s sustained contribution to Indian sports through rigorous training, world-class coaching and high-performance support.

    With the Commonwealth Games set to bring together top athletes from across the Commonwealth, the Army contingent heads to Glasgow with a singular objective—reaching the top of the podium and adding to India’s medal tally.

    The inclusion of 20 soldier-athletes once again underlines the Indian Army’s role in nurturing elite sporting talent, with its athletes continuing to excel on the international stage and contribute significantly to India’s sporting success.

    The Indian Army has made a significant contribution to India’s sporting success by producing several world-class athletes across disciplines such as athletics, boxing, shooting, wrestling, archery and weightlifting. Through institutions like the Army Sports Institute and the Mission Olympics programme, the Army provides advanced training, coaching and infrastructure to promising sportspersons. Soldier-athletes have consistently represented India with distinction at the es Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and other international competitions, making the Indian Army one of the country’s strongest pillars of sporting excellence.
